Sitting sucks

This week for reading we were looking at synthesising. That means as you read you put ideas together to make new ideas. We read a text about how your health can be affected from sitting too long.

It was interesting that all the reasoning they gave were actually pretty useful and interesting. I didn’t know that sitting slowed down your blood flow and heart beat.

I wonder what the other impacts of sitting are and how much better standing is then sitting.

This weeks reading was very useful and we learnt the pros of standing and cons of sitting which was interesting.

Do you think standing is better or sitting?

Perfect Peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are the dove with an olive branch,a crane,a white poppy and the peace sign. These symbols represent peace because when the dove came back it came back with an olive branch to show the sign of land in the bible. With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because a heart is love and love is a peaceful feeling, and it has plants around it so nature and nature is peaceful.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Martin Luther King Jr. I thought this person was a champion of peace because he made peace with his people and made it fair while being a good and responsible leader.

We also created a peace prayer book with 5 different prayers. The types of prayer I chose were, a Catholic prayer,a Buddhism prayer, a Hinduism prayer and a Judaism prayer, And the last prayer was a custom prayer. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it was a good thing to learn and so I can use it in my everyday life. I learnt about some peace symbols and their meanings, and that peace is more than the quiet. One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by spreading kindness and peace to everyone I can.

How can you be a champion of peace?

Nonchalant New Zealand wars

Kia ora bloggers

This week for reading my group had been focusing on Ngā Pakanga; the New Zealand wars. We where assigned to make a poster with text feature that also had a bit of information on the story we had to read on it. The create was a bit confusing but i eventually got the hang of it and i actually really enjoyed making the create and reading the story connected to the create. Here’s my create.

Some text features i added were: An image,A title,Timeline and a caption. I had a reason to add these being, The image was so people had an idea of what it would look like. The title so you knew what it was called and to help show what it was about. A caption to give a little hint of what the piece of text was gonna be about and a timeline to show what happened and when it happened.

Do you know about the New Zealand wars? If you do what are some things you know about it?

Malicious Maths

This week for maths we started geometry which is shapes and sizes. This week we had to make a floor plan with 6 different shapes and it had to be symmetrical, then we needed 6 different complementary colours to it.I found the create very easy since it was simple and straight up, For my floor plan i used the following shapes: an oval, a rectangle, a triangle, a diamond, a circle and a pentagon. This is my create

The colours I incorporated where: green, blue, red, orange, yellow, purple and pink. The create was fun to do and it was overall easy.

Have you done a create similar to this? if you have what shapes have you used?

Rad reading

This week for reading we read a text and had to make a diary entry about it, the text was cool to read it was called ‘how to fall’. I enjoyed reading it because it was interesting and the story had a lot of meanings. The text is about a girl called maia who was forced to move away from her home leaving her dad and just going with her mum, the story displayed her emotions really well and it can relate to a lot of people.

This is my reading create:

The text was cool to read and I like how it displayed her emotions and feelings it was really enjoyable.

Perfect Poetry

Kia Ora Bloggers

for the past week we’ve been focusing on poetry , my group focused on 3 main poems, list poems,  biographical poems and Limerick poems my favourite were the list poems since they were the easiest and most entertaining to write. The list poem was like a grocery list but it had stuff to describe it and it could be anything, The biographical poems was about yourself or about someone else I did one about myself and someone else, in the biographical poem you had to write in a lot of information about whoever your poem was about, it didn’t have to rhyme so it made it easier to write. The last poem was the limerick poem it was a short poem that had to rhyme but different lines had to rhyme so the first, second and fifth line had to rhyme and the third and fourth had to rhyme. I enjoyed all these poems but the list poem was the easiest for me so I enjoyed writing that one the most,I found it hard to do the biographical poem because i had to keep remembering information to write down but it was still enjoyable since i learnt more about the person i wrote my poem about.

Here are my Biographical poems and list poems

I wasn’t able to find my Limerick poems so I was only able to put in two of the three poems I learnt about.

have you been writing poems? and do you like poetry?

Super science

Kia ora bloggers.

In science we have been learning about electricity. We did three experiments. I wasn’t here for one and one of the experiments didn’t work. The one that didn’t work was a solar power one where you had a car and it was supposed to move with solar power since it had solar panels on it. The experiment didn’t end up working since it wasn’t sunny enough and there wasn’t enough solar power to power the cars to move so the experiment failed. The one that didn’t fail was battery power where you attached nails to beakers and put salt in it so it signalled the buzzer to make noise. This one was successful and it was enjoyable and it was really easy to put together also it was easy to figure out how it works.

Before conducting my experiment I thought that it might not work since it seemed a bit silly that salt and nails where able to create noise.

The items we used where:

  • Two beakers
  • a buzzer
  • a copper and zinc nail
  • salt
  • water
  • and a specimen jar.

We put the salt and water into the specimen jar and attached the nails to the beakers. Then we had to use the buzzer to attach the nails to the beaker and the other end was kind of in the salt water. The salt in the water signalled the buzzer and made it beep so then it made the annoying squealing sound.

After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because I thought it wasn’t going to work since the instructions seemed too easy and it seemed like a weird experiment. But it did end up working even if the instructions seemed too easy. Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing the battery power experiment. Something I found challenging was finding out how to place the nails and how much water to put in the cup/beaker.

Have you ever tried experimenting with salt?

Magnify Maths

This week in Kaupeka we have been focusing on a maths task related to the winter breakfast.for our create their where 2 separate creates to complete both being connected. For our create we had to spin a wheel 45 times, the wheel had 4 options on what it could land on being hot cakes, hot chocolate, porridge and sausage sizzle. While spinning the wheel we had to put all our data onto a table then we had to out it all into a graph and add them both onto a DLO and explain how we got the answer that we got.

Here is my DLO

Are you coming to the winter breakfast and did you do a task like ours?

Legandary Literacy

Kia ora bloggers

For this week in literacy we had the task to create a poster and a ticket to use for the porridge production, then the teachers will potentially choose a ticket to use and a poster to hang up around the school and different places. This create was really fun to do and somewhat easy given we had a lot of the information and it was a very easy task to finish, I was able to finish it in a fair amount of time. To make the poster and ticket they provided us with the needed information like the time, date, location and other needed information to be able to put together the poster and ticket. Here is my Ticket and poster for you to look at.

do you have a part in the production? and if you do what part do you have?

Magic Maths

For this weeks maths we where focusing on differences and coin flips along with graphs it has been confusing but also easy and good to learn something new, for our create we had to toss a coin 50-100 times to see the outcome and what one we would get more or less then we had to put it into a graph here’s my create.

What have you been doing this past week or two for maths?
